A Couple of Killers

My son asked me to draw up a couple quickies to illustrate his English assignment.  The assignment was to distinguish literal and figurative-- his idea: A killer wave, and, well, a killer.  Having not rendered many waves in my time, I figured this was probably a good homework assignment for me too!  So here are the images:

First up, the wave.  Not bad for one of my first attempts.  The spray, I found was one of the harder things to render in just black and white.  If I were working traditionally a toothbrush may have come in handy there.  There's digital alternatives, but I also didn't want to keep my kid up all night either!  The "under the curl" portion of the wave could probably use some additional rendering to aide the liquid texture as well.  Other than that, I'm pretty happy with my learning experience.

And here's our scary "real" killer.  This one was a little more straight forward, typical stuff for me.  As I was in a hurry, I just did a quick google image search to find a good example of an axe murderer.  Post-drawing research tells me that the image I ref-ed comes from a popular horror flick (though not one I've seen).  Bonus points if you can guess which one.

Both are all digital, drawn in Manga Studio: my weapon of choice.
