Well, it would seem everyone was expecting an explosion or something of that nature-- actually the nature of D's power is that she absorbs the life force of the person she is affecting. So, while perhaps this is a bit visually disappointing, I think that the payoff, storywise, here will be well worth it a bit down the line (trust me).
Meanwhile, nudging the plot a bit forward here. Remember-- When last we left things, as far as the Mastors are concerned, Z-Squad are fugitive co-conspirators of John John's rebellion. Also as far as anyone knew, they escaped to the Dark Universe with John John just before the portal closed.
